What theme or template is this website or blog using? Yes, it also happens to me, and almost every blogger who has to go about designing their blog themselves.
At this point, you will be forced to find the name and author of that particular template, and you will face the challenge of trying to find out the theme used on the Blogspot site or WordPress.
Recently I was using some of the keyword research tools, and I found out that a lot of people are searching for the keyword” blogger theme detector. So decided to write a tutorial blog post and different ways of detecting if a blog is running on Blogger, Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress platform and also the name of the theme been used.

How to find out what PLATFORM a website is using:
- Visit the WEBSITE you want to check its preferably the HOMEPAGE.
- While on the WEBSITE or BLOG Open your browser inspector.
- In Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, right-click on the page then choose INSPECT. Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+I (Mac) should also work.
- Navigate to SOURCES The source code’s file extensions and URLs can tell you what type of platform the website is actually built on.
- If you search the code and try to find mention of WordPress (typically by the inclusion of a reference to wp-content or wp-admin) or find mention of Blogger “Blogger Template” or “Blogger Template Style.”
- You can also do this for other popular cms like Joomla, Drupal, Typo3, Serendipity, Dotclear, ImpressPages, Chamilo, Magento, Shopify, OpenCart, PrestaShop. if you see WIX-DOM it’s Wix, CDN.SHOPIFY it’s Shopify (and so on).

Using footer of a website
Often in the footer (extreme down part) of a website, you’ll see the designer or design agency who created that website. Click on the link or google search the designer’s name, Once you are able to get through to their website you’ll see which platforms they build with.

How to find out what font a website uses or what platform a site is built on!
There are several ways to find what theme a blogger site and a WordPress site is using. This post will tutor you steps on how to know the blogger template name of any blogger site and WordPress for free without using any online tools.
Also, we will touch other cms like Joomla and Drupal, But the first thing to know before proceeding to see the theme or template name of the blog Is to identify if the site is running on the blogger platform or WordPress. To find out, follow the below steps on your mobile phone or PC. How do you know if a website is a WordPress site or a Blogger website? There are several methods to identify if a blog is running on a blogger or WordPress. I will talk about some of them below.
Method 1: Check the Site’s Source Code
One of the oldest and most reliable methods to show if a site is using WordPress, blogger, Joomla, or Drupal is to check the source code. In the source code displayed, check to see if important files are being loaded from the /wp-content/ folder. While in blogger Blogspot important files are being loaded from http://www.google.com/2005/gml/
To view the Source Code of any website, follow the steps below:
- Visit the website you want to check its preferably the homepage
- View the source code of the page: by right-clicking on any part on the page and select “view source” alternatively, you can press ‘Ctrl+U’ on your keyboard.
- In case you are unable to right-click, it means the site owner has disabled these features on his/her blog or site, and if also you are using a mobile device, a method I know that will still work fine is to use the google chrome browser.
- To do this, place the cursor just before the starting of the URL in your browser and type – “view-source:” so the URL should look like this :view-source:https://www.siteexample. View the page source and try to find mention of WordPress (typically by the inclusion of a reference to wp-content or wp-admin) or find mention of Blogger “Blogger Template” or “Blogger Template Style.” You can also do this for other popular cms like Joomla, Drupal, Typo3, Serendipity, Dotclear, ImpressPages, Chamilo, Magento, Shopify, OpenCart, PrestaShop.
- Also, try to use the find feature of your browser, “ctrl+f” should work for most browsers. Inside the new pop-up search box type: WordPress, Blogger, Joomla, Drupal, Typo3, Serendipity, Dotclear, ImpressPages, Chamilo, Magento, Shopify, OpenCart, PrestaShop or any other cms platform you are trying to detect and see what shows up. This is the method I know to work best.
Method 2: Check the image Address or URL Format
Copy an image’s URL or just right-click on any image on the page of the website or blog and click on the open image in a new tab and look at the URL. Check it to see if it refers to Blogspot, Drupal, Typo3, Serendipity, Dotclear, ImpressPages, Chamilo, Magento, Shopify, OpenCart, PrestaShop, or WordPress.
Another URL trick is: Blog post comes with the published date in the URL (post link), i.e., https://www.siteexample/2019/01/posttitel. While WordPress comes in date omitted in the URL, It appears most times in this form https://www.siteexample/posttitel or https://www.siteexample/blog/posttitel. So ones you check this URL format in your browser, you can easily tell if a website is WordPress or not.
PLEASE NOTE: METHOD 2 DOES NOT FULLY GRANTEE THE BLOG TYPE, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY? SOME WORDPRESS BLOG STARTED ON BLOGGER/BLOGSPOT PLATFORM AND TO ENSURE PROPER SEO THEY HAVE TO KEEP USING THE FORMER BLOGGER URL FORMAT.
SECONDLY, ANY EXISTING IMAGE ON THE INTERNET CAN BE USED BY ANY BLOG SO FAR THERE IS NO COPYRIGHT PROTECTION ON THE IMAGE OR PHOTOGRAPH.
Method 3: Check for Credit in the Footer and Comment Box Format
Look in the footer (bottom part of the site or blog) for “Powered by Blogger” or “Powered by WordPress. ” Who still keeps that on their blog these days? anyway, should still give it a trial.
Using Website/blog Comment Box: Another trick is the comment box, A standard WordPress comment box will give you the option to input your name and email sometimes your website. But on the blogger comment box, you have to be login to your google account to comment. Once you see the structure of the comment box you will understand it. another thing is WordPress gives some default avatar.
Method 4: Use the Page analyzer Extensions
Wappalyzer, as the name implies, I know this extension is currently available for Google Chrome, you can also try other browsers. Perhaps the quickest and easiest solution on this entire list. Install the wappalyzer extension and it will appear in your browser bar.

It can also create a list of icons on the footer, you need to activate this on the options page. In case You are wondering how do extensions know what runs a website? Every technology leaves my own specific pattern on the websites it is being used. How to find out what FONTS a website is using:
- Visit the website and Open your browser inspector.
- In Google Chrome or Firefox, right-click then choose INSPECT. Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+I (Mac) also works.
- Navigate to the element whose font you’re curious about.
- Once you’re on the correct element, navigate to the COMPUTED or STYLES tab in the inspector and scroll down to the font-family attribute.
- There’s your font!
