Talking about some of the big entities in the United States, we will be discussing about the large States in the country. The United States is home to some of biggest and Largest States in the US. It’s no surprise for a country that span across massive 9.834 million km² (2,680 miles horizontally and 1,582 miles vertically), and one of the Largest Countries in the World. In fact, some states in the United States are bigger than some countries. Therefore, we have decided to wet your appetite by providing you with the top 10 Largest States in the United States.

Coming up with this list is a bit tasking but notwithstanding we were able to come up with states which are the Largest States in the US 2019.

  • Land Area: 665,384 mi² (1,723,337 km²)
  • Capital: Juneau

Alaska State occupies the number one spot on our list of the Largest States in the US. The state is big to the extent that when California, Montana, and Texas are merge together, it is still bigger. Ironically, despite been the largest state in the country, it has the lowest population density in the United States. This can due to its weather that seems to be on the extreme.  5% of the state is covered by glaciers which the state has about 100,000 of them and the states houses all the Tallest Mountains in the US. The state is famous for its wildlife especially animals like salmon, moose, caribou, bears, whales, bison, puffins, jellyfish; and natural landscape such as glaciers and fjords, mountains, lakes, rivers, and waterways

Next on our list is the state of Texas, located in southern area of the United States. The state is bigger than most European countries and it is ranked as the second Largest State in the US on our list, it is also among the highly populated states in the country. Texas is characterized by central plains that houses some beautiful hills, Guadalupe Peak (the highest natural point in the state) with an elevation point of 2,667 meters above sea level, also not forgetting the river channel (primarily developed to control flood) which attracts lots of visitors from within and outside the country.

California is not exempted on our list sitting on the third spot. The state is located in the western part of the United States and it is the Most Populated State in the US with over 40 million inhabitants. This is no surprise because the state houses two cities among the most populous cities in the United States which are Los Angeles (home to Hollywood Entertainment Industry) and San Diego, not just that, San Francisco is another important city in the state because it is home to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Alcatraz Island and cable cars; not forgetting the “Death Valley” which is recognized as the hottest, driest place in the country.

The “Cowboy Capital” as Montana is popularly known is located in the western region of the United States enlisted among the Largest States in the US. The name of the state is translated “Mountain” because of the vast number of rocky mountains and Great Plains the state covers. However, the state is divided into two geographic regions which is the eastern Montana (containing the Great Plains) and western Montana. Eastern side (containing the Rocky Mountains). The state features a wide-open spaces which includes the Glacier National Park, and a vast wilderness preserve that passes into Canada.

New Mexico is a southwestern state in the U.S. and one of the youngest state in the country with its capital city Santa Fe as the highest state capital in the country at 7,000 ft. above sea level. Santa Fe is known for upscale spas as well as Spanish colonial architecture and vibrant arts scenery. More so, the city is regarded as the “wine state” because it houses over 50 wineries and tasting rooms established throughout the state. in addition, the state is highly literate because it has more PhDs per capita than any other state in the country.

Arizona is a well-known and popular state located in the southwestern region in the U.S. that is a culturally diverse state and geographically segmented. Also called the state of 5 Cs because of it is famous Climate, Cotton, Cattle, Copper, and Citrus. The state is home to numerous Grand Canyon which is one of the most visited vacation hub in the United States. The state is also characterized by many other features aside from the Grand Canyon including caves, desert sands, Snow Mountains, the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert, Fort Apache, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam among others.

Nevada State located in the western state of the United States. The state is characterized by large expanses of desert areas and entertainment. The most popular city in this state is Las Vegas, home to 24-hours casinos activities earning it the title as the gambling capital of the United States, there are beautiful hotels and luxury resorts located around its main thoroughfare, the Las Vegas Strip. The state is also among the densely populated States in the United States with around 3 million inhabitants. Aside from casinos, the state is also known to have the richest silver deposit in the United States. Also, it is the largest gold-mining state in the nation and second in the world just behind South Africa.

Colorado means ‘coloured red’ and it’s the name of the eight Largest State in the United State. It is a famous mountainous area that is home to most of the Southern Rocky Mountains in the country famous for its snow covered Rocky Mountains; however, there is the existence of arid deserts, plains, river canyons and lots of sunshine in the state. Most of the famous mountains in Colorado offers a picturesque view and also known to be a world-class skiing centre serving as prime tourist destination. Notably, Colorado State contains 75% of the land area of the U.S.

Oregon occupies the ninth spot on our list and houses the population around 4.1 million making it the 16th most populous city in the United States. It is often called the “Wild West Past” and it is characterized by its exceptional wildlife, natural beauty and cultural attractions. The deepest lake in the United States, Crater Lake is in Oregon. Within Oregon City there are superb shopping areas, fun recreational activities and businesses. Many movies and film has been shot in this state as well as hosting some popular comedy shows.

Last on our list is Wyoming located in the western part of the U.S. It’s the least populated state in the U.S. with a population estimated to be around 570,000 and the second most sparsely populated state in the country. Also, its land area is almost equal to that of Oregon State. The city is called the “Equality State” because it was the first state in the country to give voting right to women, serve on juries and hold public office. An example is the voting in the first female governor (Nellie Taylor Ross) in 1925. The state is home to the famous Yellowstone National Park which has more Geysers than any geyser field in the world; likewise.

I know the list of states enlisted here beats your imagination, however, it were to be by population, most of the popular states would have appeared. Interestingly, the first largest state and the tenth largest state both have the least population in the country.
